ADSL Broadband

ADSL is the most commonly available type of broadband connection. With ADSL the downstream (download) and upstream (upload) speeds are not the same this means that ADSL is generally not suitable for connecting mail/web servers to the Internet unless the traffic from them is likely to be quite low.

The reason for this is that currently all BT ADSL products have a maximum upstream bandwidth of 256kbps, with downstream speeds varying from 256kbps to 2Mbps depending on the package chosen. Therefore regardless of which ADSL package you choose you will still only have a maximum of 256kbps with which to serve web pages to your sites visitors and/or to send e-mails via your mail server.

We therefore recommend ADSL for businesses that have little need to upload data to the Internet and SDSL / Leased Lines for those with larger upload requirements.
